About This Programme

Transactional Analysis Training — Understanding the Patterns Behind Behaviour

Transactional Analysis, developed by psychiatrist Eric Berne, is one of the most practical behavioural models available to leaders and managers. It explains communication and relationships in terms of three ego states — Parent, Adult and Child — and gives a clear, memorable language for something every manager already senses intuitively: that conversations do not go wrong because of what was said, but because of the psychological pattern underneath it.

Most Transactional Analysis training stops at individual self-awareness. This programme goes further. It builds understanding at three levels — the individual, the team and the organisation — and links each one directly back to practical leadership: how TA explains recurring team friction, how organisational culture and management habits create an inherited “script” that shapes how people are treated, and how this connects directly to Situational Leadership, performance conversations and managing difficult behaviour.

Programme Outline

Full-Day Transactional Analysis Training Programme

Morning Session
Understanding Transactional Analysis: Ego States & Transactions

Delegates are introduced to Eric Berne’s Transactional Analysis model and the three core ego states — Parent, Adult and Child — including the further distinctions between Critical and Nurturing Parent, and Free and Adapted Child. They identify their own default patterns under pressure, learn to distinguish complementary, crossed and ulterior transactions, and practise spotting these patterns in real workplace scenarios and conversations.

Afternoon Session — Part 1
TA in Teams: Games, Patterns & the Drama Triangle

Delegates explore how ego states play out in team dynamics — the repeating psychological “games” people unconsciously fall into, and the Drama Triangle of Persecutor, Rescuer and Victim, and how it shows up in meetings, projects and day-to-day working relationships. They practise strategies for stepping out of unhealthy team patterns and re-establishing genuine Adult-to-Adult working relationships.

Afternoon Session — Part 2
Organisational Scripts, Leadership Application & Action Planning

Delegates examine how organisations develop their own inherited “scripts” — cultural messages, unwritten rules and leadership habits that shape how people are managed, often unconsciously reinforcing unhealthy Parent-Child dynamics from the top down. The programme links Transactional Analysis directly to Situational Leadership, performance management and difficult conversations, and closes with a personal action plan for applying TA in specific management situations back in the business.
