About This Programme

Performance Management Training — Built for Real Workplace Situations

Strong performance management is not about micromanagement, annual appraisals or constantly chasing people — it is about creating clarity, accountability and consistent performance standards. Most performance problems are not people problems. They are management problems: unclear expectations, avoided conversations and inconsistent standards that erode performance and team culture over time.

This full-day programme gives managers the confidence, communication frameworks and practical management tools to drive performance, address underperformance early and manage difficult conversations professionally — with structured practice built in throughout using real workplace scenarios.

Programme Outline

Full-Day Performance Management Training Programme

Morning Session
Creating Accountability — Expectations, Standards & Effective One-to-Ones

Managers define performance management and why most organisations do it poorly despite good intentions. They create unambiguous performance standards and SMART objectives, practise the expectation conversations that make accountability possible, and develop the structure and confidence to run one-to-ones that sustain focus, build trust and surface issues before they escalate.

Afternoon Session — Part 1
Feedback, Underperformance & Difficult Conversations

Managers practise delivering specific, timely and constructive feedback that lands as information rather than criticism, apply structured frameworks for underperformance conversations and manage escalation with confidence and fairness — including recognising when attitude-based underperformance requires a different approach to skills-based underperformance.

Afternoon Session — Part 2
Performance Improvement Plans, Employment Law & Personal Action Planning

Managers build a fair, documented PIP process and develop working knowledge of the UK employment law framework governing performance management. Every delegate leaves with a personal action plan — specific commitments to change in their very next management conversation.
